Nissan Van Guide
Nissan has a long history in the British commercial vehicle market, offering practical and dependable vans for tradespeople, delivery businesses and larger commercial fleets.
Today's range stretches from the compact Townstar to the versatile Primastar and the imposing Interstar. Petrol, diesel and electric powertrains are available across the range, while Nissan's close relationship with Renault brings proven engineering, practical load areas and competitive pricing. A five-year commercial vehicle warranty provides further reassurance for buyers looking for a dependable working vehicle.

Nissan Townstar (22-)![]() | RRP From: £22,640 + VAT |
The Townstar arrived in 2022 as Nissan's replacement for the NV250, bringing modern technology, improved comfort and electric propulsion to the company's compact commercial vehicle range. Developed alongside the Renault Kangoo and Mercedes-Benz Citan, it shares much of its underlying engineering with those models while offering Nissan's own styling, equipment and warranty package.
Two body lengths provide between 3.3 and 4.3 cubic metres of cargo capacity, making the Townstar particularly competitive in the compact van market. The longer L2 version offers a useful 2230mm load floor, while the relatively square cargo compartment makes good use of the available exterior dimensions. Sliding side doors and wide-opening rear doors add further practicality.
Unusually for a modern small van, the Townstar does not offer a diesel engine. Instead, buyers can choose a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol producing approximately 128bhp, available with manual or automatic transmission, or the fully electric Townstar EV. The latter uses a 45kWh battery and a 122PS electric motor, offering up to 178 miles of WLTP combined range.
Although the electric version has a smaller battery than some newer competitors, its generous cargo capacity and smooth driving characteristics make it well suited to urban deliveries. Petrol models provide an alternative for businesses unable to charge regularly, with payload capacities reaching approximately 774kg on selected versions.
Nissan Primastar (21-)![]() | RRP From: £31,790 + VAT |
The Primastar name returned to Nissan's commercial vehicle range in 2021, replacing the NV300 and reviving a badge previously used between 2002 and 2016. Like both of those vehicles, the latest Primastar shares its foundations with the Renault Trafic, giving it a proven platform and a practical load area.
One of the Primastar's biggest attractions is its range of body configurations. The standard-roof L1H1 provides 5.8 cubic metres of cargo capacity, while the longer L2H1 increases this to 6.7 cubic metres. High-roof H2 versions have also been offered, raising maximum cargo volume to 8.9 cubic metres. Taller versions are particularly useful for businesses carrying bulky equipment or requiring additional interior working space.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre dCi diesel engine, with outputs ranging from approximately 108 to 168bhp. Manual and automatic transmissions are available depending on specification, while the more powerful versions provide particularly useful flexibility for heavier loads and motorway driving.
Unlike some newer competitors, the Primastar is not currently offered as a fully electric van. However, for businesses covering longer distances, its efficient diesel engines, substantial cargo capacity and comfortable driving position remain appealing. Although the basic Renault Trafic-derived body has been familiar for more than a decade, regular updates to its equipment, styling and safety systems have kept it competitive.
Nissan Interstar (24-)![]() | RRP From: £34,990 + VAT |
The latest Nissan Interstar represents a major step forward for the brand's largest commercial vehicle. Introduced in 2024, it replaced the previous Renault Master-derived Interstar with an all-new generation featuring improved aerodynamics, technology and efficiency.
Available in several body lengths and roof heights, the Interstar offers cargo capacities ranging from 10.8 to 14.8 cubic metres. The longest version provides a 3855mm load floor, while the tallest roof increases internal height to 2138mm, making it well suited to bulky loads and specialist conversions.
Diesel models use a 2.0-litre dCi engine with outputs of up to 168bhp, paired with manual or automatic transmissions. Front-wheel drive helps maximise cargo space and keeps the load floor relatively low.
The fully electric Interstar-e offers battery options of up to 87kWh and a WLTP range approaching 280 miles on selected versions. Payloads exceeding 1.7 tonnes are available on some diesel models, while chassis-cab, dropside, tipper and Luton variants further broaden the range.
With diesel and electric powertrains, impressive carrying capacity and numerous body styles, the Interstar offers a credible alternative to established rivals such as the Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Fiat Ducato.
