Vauxhall Van Guide

Vauxhall has been one of the most familiar names in British commercial vehicles for generations, producing practical vans that have become a common sight on building sites, delivery rounds and motorways across the country.

Today's range stretches from the compact Combo Cargo to the versatile Vivaro and spacious Movano. Diesel and electric powertrains are available across the range, with competitive pricing, practical load compartments and modern technology. Vauxhall's long British manufacturing heritage, alongside its shared engineering with other Stellantis brands, gives its commercial vehicles a particularly interesting position in the UK market.

The current Combo Cargo arrived in 2018, marking a significant change for Vauxhall's compact commercial vehicle. Replacing the earlier Fiat Doblò-derived model, the new generation adopted the Stellantis platform shared with the Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Partner, bringing improved practicality, technology and a more modern driving experience.

Two body lengths provide cargo capacities ranging from 3.3 to 4.4 cubic metres, depending on configuration. The useful FlexCargo load-through system allows longer items to extend beneath the front passenger seat, while sliding side doors and a practical load area make the Combo particularly suitable for tradespeople and delivery drivers.

Earlier models offered a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, but today's UK range concentrates on 1.5-litre diesel engines producing 100 or 130PS, alongside the fully electric Combo Electric. The latter now uses a 52kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering up to 219 miles of WLTP range and retaining the same practical cargo compartment as its diesel counterparts.

One particularly interesting aspect of the Combo Electric is its British manufacturing connection. The van is produced at Stellantis' Ellesmere Port factory in Cheshire, which became the UK's first dedicated electric vehicle manufacturing plant in 2023. With useful carrying capacity, competitive pricing and familiar mechanical components, the Combo remains a strong contender in the small-van market.

The Vivaro has been one of Vauxhall's most important commercial vehicles since its introduction in 2001. The current generation arrived in 2019, marking a move away from the Renault Trafic-based engineering used by its predecessors. Instead, the latest Vivaro shares its foundations with the Citroën Dispatch, Peugeot Expert and Fiat Scudo.

Available in two body lengths, the Vivaro offers cargo capacities ranging from 5.3 to 6.6 cubic metres. Its relatively low roof, is a particular advantage for businesses regularly visiting multi-storey car parks or height-restricted loading areas. The FlexCargo bulkhead also allows longer items to extend into the passenger compartment, with a maximum load length of just over four metres in the longer model.

The latest diesel range includes a 120PS 1.5-litre engine and more powerful 150PS or 180PS 2.2-litre units, with manual and automatic transmissions available depending on specification. Meanwhile, the fully electric Vivaro Electric offers a 75kWh battery and up to 230 miles of WLTP range, making it an appealing alternative for businesses with predictable daily journeys and reliable charging facilities.

Beyond the conventional panel van, Vauxhall offers Doublecab versions with additional passenger seating, along with specialist derivatives and camper conversions. The more distinctive GS specification also brings sportier exterior styling, demonstrating the increasingly broad appeal of modern commercial vehicles.

The Vivaro remains one of the UK's most recognisable medium-sized vans, with a practical load area and a broad choice of configurations keeping it competitive.

The Movano is Vauxhall's largest conventional van, offering substantial cargo capacity and an extensive range of commercial configurations. The current generation arrived in 2021, replacing the Renault Master-derived Movano with a new model sharing its body and engineering with the Fiat Ducato, Citroën Relay and Peugeot Boxer.

Six panel-van body configurations provide between 10 and 17 cubic metres of cargo space, with the longest L4 version offering a 4070mm load floor. The tallest H3 roof provides more than 2.1 metres of internal height, while the generous 1422mm between the wheel arches makes the Movano particularly useful for carrying pallets, building materials and bulky equipment.

The diesel range uses a 2.2-litre engine producing 140PS, with a more powerful 180PS automatic available on selected heavier versions. Front-wheel drive helps maintain a relatively low load floor, while the wide rear doors and square cargo compartment make loading and unloading particularly straightforward.

The fully electric Movano Electric uses a substantial 110kWh battery and a 270hp electric motor, with selected versions capable of up to 263 miles of WLTP range. Electric models are offered in several L3 and L4 configurations, retaining cargo capacities of up to 17 cubic metres. However, some electric versions have slightly different exterior heights from their diesel counterparts, as shown in the dimensions above.

The Movano is also available as a chassis cab, dropside, tipper and specialist commercial conversion. Its enormous and well-proportioned load area remains one of the best in the business, demonstrating how a fundamentally practical commercial vehicle can remain relevant for decades.
