Toyota Van Guide
Toyota has become an increasingly important name in the British commercial vehicle market, combining its long-standing reputation for reliability with a growing range of practical vans and specialist working vehicles.
Today's range stretches from the unusual Corolla Commercial hybrid to the compact Proace City, versatile Proace and spacious Proace Max. The rugged Land Cruiser Commercial adds genuine off-road capability, while diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains provide considerable choice. Shared engineering with Stellantis and a warranty programme offering up to ten years of cover help make Toyota a particularly interesting alternative to more established European van manufacturers.

Toyota Corolla Commercial (22-)![]() | RRP From: £23,962 + VAT |
The Corolla Commercial is one of the most unusual vehicles in Toyota's commercial range, reviving the traditional car-derived van with a modern hybrid powertrain. Introduced in 2022, it takes the British-built Corolla Touring Sports estate and replaces the rear seats with a flat, protected load area and a full-height bulkhead.
Its 1.33-cubic-metre cargo compartment is considerably smaller than that of a conventional compact van, but for businesses carrying tools, parcels or relatively lightweight equipment, the Corolla offers a more comfortable and economical alternative. Its low roof, car-like driving position and generous standard equipment make it particularly appealing to operators covering longer distances.
Power comes from Toyota's familiar 1.8-litre self-charging hybrid system, producing approximately 138bhp in its latest form. Toyota quotes WLTP combined economy of approximately 58–64mpg, making it particularly attractive for high-mileage business users.
Another important advantage is its British manufacturing connection. The Corolla Commercial is developed and produced at Toyota's Burnaston factory in Derbyshire, making it one of the few car-derived vans still manufactured in the UK. While it cannot compete with a conventional panel van for outright carrying capacity, its combination of hybrid efficiency, passenger-car comfort and useful load space gives it a distinctive place in the commercial market.
Proace City (20- updated 24-)![]() | RRP From: £23,878 + VAT |
The Proace City arrived in 2020 as Toyota's entry into the conventional compact van market. Developed alongside the Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo, it shares their practical platform and familiar mechanical components while offering Toyota's own styling, equipment and warranty package.
Two body lengths provide between 3.3 and 4.3 cubic metres of cargo space, depending on configuration. The useful Smart Cargo load-through bulkhead allows longer materials to extend beneath the passenger seat, increasing maximum load length to 3440mm in the larger L2 version. Sliding side doors and a practical, square load compartment make it particularly useful for tradespeople and local delivery work.
The current UK range concentrates on the economical 1.5-litre diesel and fully electric Proace City Electric. The electric model uses a 52kWh battery and 136bhp motor, offering up to approximately 213 miles of WLTP combined range. Payload capacity is another strong point, with selected models capable of carrying close to one tonne.
Perhaps Toyota's biggest advantage is its warranty programme. Every qualifying annual service at an authorised Toyota centre can extend vehicle warranty cover for up to ten years or 100,000 miles. Combined with competitive pricing and a comfortable cabin, the Proace City is a convincing alternative in the compact van market.
Toyota Proace (16- updated 24-)![]() | RRP From: £29,753 + VAT |
The Toyota Proace occupies the middle of the manufacturer's commercial range, offering an appealing balance of load capacity, driving comfort and manageable exterior dimensions. The current generation arrived in 2016 and received a substantial facelift in 2024, introducing revised styling, additional safety technology and an improved interior.
Sharing its platform with the Fiat Scudo, the Proace is available in two body lengths. Cargo capacity ranges from 5.3 to 6.6 cubic metres, while the Smart Cargo load-through system allows longer materials to extend beneath the front passenger seat. In the long-wheelbase version, this increases maximum load length to just over four metres.
One of the Proace's greatest advantages is its relatively low roof height. At approximately 1.9 metres tall, it can access many height-restricted car parks and loading areas that would be inaccessible to a conventional high-roof van. Sliding side doors and a practical load compartment further improve everyday usability.
The diesel range includes a 120bhp 1.5-litre engine and a more powerful 2.2-litre versions with automatic transmissions available depending on specification. These provide useful flexibility for businesses covering longer distances or regularly carrying substantial loads.
Meanwhile, the electric Proace utilises batteries upto 75kWh, with a WLTP range of more than 200 miles on selected versions. Electric models retain the same basic cargo compartment, making them particularly appealing to delivery fleets with reliable charging facilities. With practical dimensions, familiar Stellantis engineering and Toyota's service-activated warranty programme, it offers an attractive alternative to better-known European medium-sized vans.
Toyota Proace Max (24-)![]() | RRP From: £34,837 + VAT |
The Proace Max is Toyota's largest conventional van, introduced in 2024 as the company expanded into the full-size commercial vehicle market. Sharing its fundamental design with the Peugeot Boxer, it offers the same exceptionally practical load compartment while benefiting from Toyota's own equipment specifications and warranty programme.
Four body configurations are available in the current UK range, with cargo capacities stretching from 11.5 to an impressive 17 cubic metres. Diesel models are offered in L2 and L3 lengths, while the fully electric version adds the enormous L4H3 configuration. Its 4070mm load floor and more than two metres of internal height make the largest version particularly useful for carrying bulky equipment, furniture and substantial loads.
Like its Stellantis relatives, the Proace Max uses a front-wheel-drive layout, allowing a relatively low load floor and a practical, square cargo compartment. The generous 1422mm between the wheel arches is another advantage, making it particularly useful for businesses transporting pallets and building materials.
Diesel versions use a 2.2-litre engine producing 140bhp, available with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the Proace Max Electric offers a substantial 110kWh battery and 275bhp electric motor. Toyota quotes a WLTP driving range of upto 260 miles.
Beyond conventional panel vans, Toyota offers chassis cab, platform cab, dropside and tipper configurations, allowing the Proace Max to serve a wide variety of commercial applications. With strong carrying capacity, a comprehensive standard equipment package and Toyota's established warranty support, the Proace Max offers an interesting alternative to more familiar large commercial vehicles.
Land Cruiser Commercial (25-)![]() | RRP From: £53,337 + VAT |
The Land Cruiser Commercial is a rather different proposition from Toyota's conventional vans, combining the rugged capability of the famous Land Cruiser with a practical, enclosed load compartment. Introduced in 2025, the latest version takes the new-generation five-door Land Cruiser and replaces its rear seats with a durable cargo area and full-height protective bulkhead.
Its cargo capacity of approximately two cubic metres is modest compared with even a compact conventional van, but outright carrying volume is not the Land Cruiser's main attraction. Instead, it offers permanent four-wheel drive, substantial ground clearance, serious off-road capability and a braked towing capacity of up to 3500kg.
Power comes from Toyota's 2.8-litre D-4D diesel engine, producing approximately 202bhp and 500Nm of torque. For 2026, the Commercial also adopted Toyota's 48V mild-hybrid system, improving stop-start operation and refinement without compromising its ability to tackle demanding terrain. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is standard.
The Land Cruiser Commercial is particularly suited to agricultural businesses, utility companies, forestry operators and organisations working in remote locations. Its substantial towing capacity and ability to travel across difficult ground give it advantages that conventional road-focused vans simply cannot match.
At more than £53,000 excluding VAT, it is considerably more expensive than a conventional compact van, while carrying substantially less cargo. However, few alternatives combine such strong off-road capability, towing performance, refinement and enclosed load space. For businesses needing to work far beyond ordinary roads, the Land Cruiser Commercial offers something genuinely different.
