Tesla Guide

Tesla is an American electric-car and energy company founded in 2003, and one of the most influential brands in the modern shift towards battery-powered transport. Its combination of long driving ranges, strong performance, over-the-air software updates and the Supercharger network helped push electric cars into the mainstream.

The brand has built its identity around simple, minimalist design and a highly digital ownership experience, with large central touchscreens replacing many conventional controls. Model 3 and Model Y form the core of the range, while larger and more specialised models sit above them. Tesla also continues to develop its battery, charging and autonomous-driving technology as part of a broader focus on electric transport and energy systems.

Model 3 suits drivers who want an efficient electric saloon with an uncluttered cabin and straightforward route planning. Long Range and Performance versions broaden the appeal beyond the relatively affordable starting model.

Model Y takes Tesla’s familiar screen-led approach and adds a wide-opening tailgate, a taller driving position and useful family space. It is the more practical choice for bulky luggage, pushchairs or regular rear-seat passengers. The latest update brings a more settled character, although equipment varies considerably between versions. Its integrated charging stops make longer electric journeys easier to organise.

Specifications, dimensions and prices were correct at the time of the latest update. Recommended retail prices are official UK list prices, while pre-registered and used values are approximate UK market figures and may vary depending on specification, mileage, condition and location. Recommended retail prices include any applicable UK Government electric vehicle grant where available but exclude dealer discounts, manufacturer incentives and other retail offers.

Dimensions quote vehicle width excluding exterior mirrors unless otherwise stated. Boot capacities are measured or quoted up to the parcel shelf/load cover where applicable, rather than to the roof. For seven-seat vehicles, the listed boot capacity refers to space behind the third row with all seats in use unless otherwise stated.

Power outputs are quoted in bhp, with manufacturers' kW, PS or CV figures converted where necessary. Electric driving ranges use WLTP combined figures where available.
