Maxus Van Guide

MAXUS has become an increasingly prominent name in the British commercial vehicle market, combining competitive pricing with an extensive range of diesel and electric vans. Owned by China's SAIC Motor, the manufacturer also has a connection to Britain's automotive history, having revived the LDV name before adopting the MAXUS brand in 2020.

Today's range stretches from the compact electric eDELIVER 3 to the spacious DELIVER 9 and eDELIVER 9, with the newer eDELIVER 5 and DELIVER 7 families filling the gaps between them. Generous equipment, substantial carrying capacity and increasingly competitive electric technology make MAXUS an interesting alternative to established European commercial vehicle manufacturers.

The eDELIVER 3 arrived in Britain in 2020 as part of MAXUS' relaunch, replacing the earlier LDV branding and introducing a purpose-built electric commercial vehicle. Unlike many electric vans of the period, which were adapted from existing diesel models, the eDELIVER 3 was developed specifically for electric propulsion, allowing particularly efficient use of its compact exterior dimensions.

Measuring just 4555mm in length, the eDELIVER 3 provides an impressive 4.8 cubic metres of cargo space, with a 2180mm load floor and 1220mm between the wheel arches. Maximum payload reaches 1045kg, making it surprisingly capable for a relatively small van.

The latest version uses a 50kWh battery and electric motor producing up to approximately 158bhp, providing 141 miles of WLTP combined range. Earlier versions offered different battery capacities, including a smaller 35kWh option, so used buyers should check the precise specification.

MAXUS has also introduced substantial discounts on new vehicles, with a September 2026 promotional offer bringing the eDELIVER 3 below £20,000 excluding VAT. These offers are separate from its official retail pricing, but demonstrate how quickly electric commercial vehicles are becoming more accessible to smaller businesses.

The eDELIVER 5 arrived in 2024, providing MAXUS with a modern electric van positioned between the compact eDELIVER 3 and larger eDELIVER 7. Developed specifically for electric propulsion, it offers unusually generous cargo capacity for its exterior dimensions, with a relatively short bonnet and well-packaged load compartment helping to maximise interior space.

Four body configurations are available, with cargo volumes ranging from 6.6 to 8.7 cubic metres. Even the shortest L1H1 provides substantially more space than many conventional compact vans, while the longer L2H2 combines a three-metre load floor with 1675mm of internal height. A Double Cab derivative is also available, combining additional passenger seating with a smaller cargo compartment.

All versions use a 64kWh battery and 120kW electric motor producing approximately 161bhp. The smaller L1H1 offers up to 208 miles of WLTP combined range, while the longer and taller versions achieve slightly less as their size increases. DC rapid charging at up to 70kW allows the battery to recharge from 20 to 80% in approximately 36 minutes under suitable conditions.

Payload capacity is one of the eDELIVER 5's strongest attractions, reaching 1265kg in selected L2 versions. A braked towing capacity of 1500kg adds further versatility, making it suitable for businesses requiring a practical medium-sized electric vehicle without moving to a much larger van. The relatively square cargo area also makes it useful for shelving installations, parcel deliveries and specialist commercial conversions.

The MAXUS DELIVER 7 and eDELIVER 7 arrived in 2024, expanding the manufacturer's presence in the medium-sized commercial vehicle market. Available with diesel or electric propulsion, the two versions offer modern styling, generous standard equipment and substantial carrying capacity, although their body dimensions and cargo configurations differ.

The diesel DELIVER 7 is available in two roof heights, with cargo capacities of 7.2 or 9.2 cubic metres. The larger high-roof version offers considerably more space than many conventional medium-sized vans, while its 2913mm load floor provides useful accommodation for longer materials.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing approximately 148bhp and 375Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. Front-wheel drive provides predictable handling and a practical load area, while maximum payload reaches 1220kg. A braked towing capacity of 2000kg adds further versatility, making the DELIVER 7 suitable for a wide variety of commercial applications.

The fully electric eDELIVER 7 offers three body configurations, including a shorter L1H1 measuring just over five metres in length. Cargo capacity ranges from 5.9 to 8.7 cubic metres, while the longer models provide a 2913mm load floor. Although the electric versions have slightly different exterior dimensions from their diesel counterparts, they retain generous carrying capacity, with maximum payload reaching 1200kg.

Two battery capacities are available: 77kWh and 88kWh. Both use a 150kW electric motor producing approximately 201bhp and 330Nm of torque, with the larger battery offering up to 230 miles of WLTP combined range. Rapid DC charging can replenish the battery from 20 to 80% in approximately 43 minutes under suitable conditions. With substantial load capacity, modern technology and a choice of diesel or electric propulsion, the DELIVER 7 family offers considerable value.

The MAXUS DELIVER 9 arrived in Britain in 2020, replacing the ageing LDV V80 and introducing a more modern large commercial vehicle to the manufacturer's range. Developed by SAIC Motor, it combines substantial carrying capacity with competitive pricing, modern safety equipment and a broad choice of commercial configurations.

The conventional diesel DELIVER 9 is available with front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive, allowing buyers to select the drivetrain best suited to their requirements. Panel-van cargo volumes range from 11 to 12.9 cubic metres, depending on roof height and drivetrain, while the 3413mm load floor provides useful accommodation for longer materials.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing approximately 148bhp and 375Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. Selected models can carry more than 1.5 tonnes, while braked towing capacity reaches 2800kg. These figures make the DELIVER 9 a practical choice for demanding commercial work, although payload and towing limits vary according to the precise body configuration.

For the electric eDeliver 9, battery options include 77kWh and 88kWh units for the conventional 3.5-tonne electric panel vans, with a 100kWh battery available on selected heavier rear-wheel-drive versions. Official WLTP combined range reaches 216 miles on the lighter front-wheel-drive models, while some higher-weight variants are quoted at up to 224 miles. The electric models retain a practical load area, although their batteries reduce carrying capacity compared with equivalent diesel versions.

Although the DELIVER 9 does not offer the same breadth of body sizes as some rivals, its combination of carrying capacity, diesel and electric powertrains and particularly competitive purchase prices makes it an attractive alternative in the large-van market. Used examples have also become considerably more affordable, with some earlier diesel and electric vans now available for a fraction of their original retail prices.

Specifications, dimensions and prices were correct at the time of the latest update.
