Alpine Guide

Alpine is a French performance brand built around lightweight engineering, distinctive design and driver-focused cars. Founded in Dieppe in 1955, it established its reputation through motorsport and compact sports cars, most famously the original A110 and its rallying success.

The modern A110 revived that philosophy for a new generation, while Alpine is now expanding into a broader electric performance marque. Its current line-up stretches from the compact A290 hot hatch to the larger A390 fastback, with more models planned. Despite that growth, performance, relatively low weight and a strong French identity remain central to Alpine’s character.

The A290 turns the Renault 5 formula into a more purposeful electric hot hatch, with wider bodywork, a bespoke chassis set-up and Brembo front brakes. A five-door body and useful boot give it everyday appeal, although rear-seat space remains small-car territory. It is an appealing choice for buyers who value compact dimensions and character as much as outright pace.

The A390 takes Alpine into the premium family-car market with a low fastback roofline, five seats and a much more generous boot. Its three-motor layout gives each rear wheel its own motor, allowing Alpine Active Torque Vectoring to adjust the drive delivered to each side through a corner. The 395 bhp GT already reaches 62mph in 4.8 seconds; the 464 bhp GTS reduces that to 3.9 seconds. This is the Alpine for buyers who need one car to cover family life and longer journeys while retaining a strong emphasis on performance.
